Change of plans, first change, maybe more coming

Well, Holly called this morning and read me the riot act about driving to Virginia. I told her I would consider it, and I did. This afternoon, I called the Delta Travel line and listed us for Delta flight 812 out of Albuquerque at 0620 on 11 September, arriving in Richmond at 12:15 with a stop in Atlanta. We'll rent a car and make our way to see Carson. Our return is on the 18th, DAL flight DL 1787 to Atlanta, and DL 817 to Albuquerque, arriving around 6 pm. We will arrive back in Amarillo, tired and dirty, around midnight.

See, it would have been so much simpler to just drive out for two or three days, rest up and drive back....

I did the math on your road trip. If you were to try to drive in 2 days and get at best 17 miles per gallon that would be $174.26 in gas per day at $3.95 per gallon. For 2 days it is $348.53. A conservative meal allowance of no more than $45.00 per day for 2 people and one night in a hotel at $100.00 makes a one way trip from your house to Kari and Wayne's house cost $538.53. It's still cheaper to fly even if you purchased tickets!!!

Got your flight itineary from Kari. Just for kicks I did a mapquest from our house to RIC and then to DCA we are 51.7 miles to DCA and 71.6 miles to RIC - however, the travel time from RIC to our house should be a lot less as you will be headed north out of RIC - meaning you will be travelling in non rush hour traffic whereas if you had arrived DCA and had to head south about 45 minutes after your arrival you would be in the middle of DC/NOVA evening rush and unless you have 3 occupants you can not use the HOV lane. Considering that I agree with Holly, remember I did just over 1,700 miles in 2 days back in June when I went back for the final move. The 1st day I did 800 miles and got from Woodbridge, VA to Dickson, TN (about 20 miles southwest of Nashville) Day 2 I did 900 plus miles from Dickson, TN to Amarillo. Both days were over 12 hours on the road. Even when we all made the final trip out to VA it took us 3 days although coming through Kentucky, West VA, and VA it was a scenic ride. Either way you arrive we will be glad to have your company. I've already talked to the boss and am taking vacation from 9/12 through 9/17
